Good paint matching!
« on: April 12, 2025, 08:29:59 PM »
The folks at 66AutoColor did an excellent paint match for my 750!
https://www.66autocolor.com/?srsltid=AfmBOopgAlcMj4mDA3-xUbwoaM3DmKLP0c109yBKXREHyiiV7BsaksoO

Here's some the pictures, and the back story: in 1979 the Garnett Brown on my 750s tank had worn through the top (green) layer and was showing red candy underneath (that's how Garnett Brown came about: Brier Brown is the opposite layer sequence). I had the bike repainted, and the painter (not me) picked GM's 2-part epoxy, in gold. While I wasn't happy about the color choice (I had told him "anything but gold, preferably Blue-Green or a blue") it was in trade for something else. The paint itself, however, has been incredibly durable, surviving over 80k miles with frequent tank bags and the usual gasoline spills and abuse. The side covers finally broke from age and I asked the folks at 66 Auto Color to try to match this old paint, sent them a piece of the side cover. The match is PERFECT, even to the gloss.

I'd recommend them if you're trying to match something and can send them a sample. Nice folks, good job!

They can do amazing things with scanning and computer color mixing these days.
Very little trial and error required any more.

That's odd, in my observation original Honda garnet brown parts always fade to green?

That's also true: the red candy layer fades to grey after enough time, making the green show up more. I had a Garnet Brown 750 tank (spare-ish) that had for decades been in a (leaky) shed, and where the sunlight blazed about a 1/2" line across it every day for years, it had a greenish 'stripe' right across it. I think it was in there for 15 years after 1980. If the gas cap vent had been plugged, it might have survived ?
