Hello from Pacific Washington
« on: January 13, 2024, 03:51:01 PM »
Hello from Pacific Washington. My Name is Chris Osborne . I have Enjoyed Honda's most of my Life.My dad bought me a  Z50A in 1969, then every other year he traded the bike in for something bigger. So my journey with tinkering, fixing and repairing started. Today in retirement I have been adding to my bike collection up to 11 currently. Including 3 SOHC bikes CB400F,CB550K1,CB750F0. I do all my own work including Paint. I Have used these forums through the years for tips and trick when doing something i have never done. I am joining as i believe its time to give back. I love to do restorations back to Factory original as possible ,looking high and low for the correct pieces and fasteners
I just picked  up a 1975 CB400F in Varnish Blue, I am currently Gathering parts and pieces. It has lots of corrosion so i will be adding new rims and spokes, refacing gauges, new chrome and painting and polishing the bike.
I love a challenge. As i understand Honda tried something new on these bikes to do with the clutch basket. they used rubber cushions instead of springs! here we are 50 years later and the rubber is cracked and brittle. The bike has the common "Clutch Basket Rattle" I have read some talk about this and most say to "learn to Live with it" as it is not detrimental to the engine and the bits cant escape into the crankcase. The Basket needs to be separated by drilling out 6 Rivets. what is the challenge ? finding replacement rubber cushion. looking for help.

Hey Ozzybud,
Are you in Australia? The euro blinkers give it away.
There is also a city called Pacific in the state of Washington in the USA.
I imagine most will think this is where you are from since this is the US forum.

There have been several attempts to reproduce the rubber in the clutch basket. Thr most recent attemt that I know of, and seems to be successful so far, is by Seiji Sakamoto of Custom Paranoia in Japan. He's a good guy, and his english is fair.

Chris, Welcome from southern Arizona desert...out in Sonoran Desert 20 NW of downtown Tucson, AZ.
Sounds like you have a good collection 9f bikes abd experience.

There was a thread on the forums about this or was it the primary drive rubbers, likely the later.
Glad you have found a source for the rubber bits! Sometimes you have to buy an air riveter for the job...
Small price for getting it done right.
