Yes I would say hurling shot at our cases would be pretty hard on them.
Oh I have no doubt that the mfg has a process specific to similar things, one past job we worked on GM lost foam cast engine blocks and cylinder heads that were sand cast. The castings were super clean yet not damaged by whatever cleaned them. The shot used on the Aeroquip fitting blanks was super fine, like smaller than #12 shot even.
