CB750 K1 Starter Issue
« on: May 12, 2024, 07:21:06 AM »
My K1 starter suddenly stopped working after sitting for a few months without starting it.  Battery 100%.  I can hear the solenoid making the humming sound but starter not spinning.  Any suggestions before I pull the starter out.
Thanks

Check voltage at the starter, you may have a wire problem.
They are not hard to remove for checking.

Thanks.  Interesting there was no problem but after sitting the problem occurred.  I'll pull it out and check. Anything else it may be?

The solenoid making a humming or buzzing sound instead of a single click is a classic sign of a bad battery.

I had it on a trickle charger but then tried my Battery Charger and it showed 100%.  Started right up with the kick starter and ran perfectly.

Check the battery voltage with a meter, then press the starter button and see how much the voltage drops. ;)

I Just checked the voltage with a meter and the voltage drops off dramatically when I hit the starter.  Even though it is showing fully charged it looks like the battery is bad.  I have not seen this before so that is why it was confusing to me.  Thanks for your help.

I was using a BikeMaster Platinum AGM MS12-14L-A2 previously that lasted for several years.  Any suggestions for a replacement.

I just tried a jump pack I have for my Harley and it cranked right over.  Definitely the battery.

Yuasa or Motobatt are good choices in AGM
