hello from wichita falls texas
« on: May 23, 2024, 10:44:59 AM »
Once I get rid of my 650 v star and my nonrunning 99 1100 shadow I will be buying a cb 750. Maybe before that happens.I once owned a cb 650 but I want a 750. I see it wasnt until the nighthawk that the cb had hydraulic valves. I see the dohc started in 79. I figure the sohc are more valuable. I dont have to have a museum, I just want a nice restored completely stock 750. I prefer disc brakes. I am studying here to see which model dropped the rear drum, but if i cant find one a rear drum will do. On my cb650s all the mufflers were rusted out. Used to david silver spares existed, I dont know if he does now. I am so very much wanting to get on a great mechanical conditioned cb 750 and go for a long ride.

Thanks to all who replied. I have regretted selling my 650s years ago but i intend correcting that by buying a 750 somewhere. I really dont know why honda made the 650. Its a very similar bike to the 750. I had 2 650s i sold the engines out of to guys wanting to upgrade their 500 4s. Now that swap makes sense. Direct boltin. I would love to find an amen saviour frame too.

Welcome.   Here is the model guide to help you determine what you would like.  Generally speaking about the 750's, the older the bike, the more valuable...

I realize now how much there is to learn about these bikes. I started riding when the 69 came out. I dont know why honda changed to dohc in 79. Is there some benefit to the change. I overhauled a 1980 suzuki gs 1000. It was dohc. I know diffferences between it and the honda for sure.  But all the ujms were a lot alike.

Yes, absolutely - performance!   The Kawasaki 900 was DOHC in '73 in response to Honda beating them to the first inline 4 cylinder superbike in '69.

Kawasaki was about to unveil their 750 but honda came out with theirs in 69 so kawasaki went back to the drawing board and increased theirs to 903. Suzuki was the last to join the party. Their 750 was 2 valve per cylinder instead of 4, it outperformed everything but the kz. Then their 1000,1100,1150 outperformed all of them. I have had a gs 1000 completely apart.its much simpler internally than the kz. It also uses studs with acorn nuts instead of head bolts. The cranks were overbuilt so a drag version could use a stock crank all the way to 350 hp build. But they came too late to the game.
