message board vs facebook
« on: July 20, 2024, 02:49:42 PM »
It has been so long since I have been on a message board.  Facebook seems to have taken over.  I am actually enjoying being  back on a message board.

This is the best forum/ message board.
I just wish it had the ability to "Like" a post or comment.

I don't always feel the need to comment.

I wish it was easier to post pictures, but yes this is a great bunch of people.

I've found that with any FB groups having to do with old bikes, when someone asks a question there might be a good answer or two but they are buried under half-baked ideas, ridiculous attempts at solutions, newbies trying to answer things they have no idea about, misdirections, etc. We may not be able to like posts, but likes also don't screw up some algorithm that rewards people who don't know what they are talking about yet who post a ton. Don't get me wrong -- we have our fair share of cantankerous characters and there are some rude back-and-forths, but most of the info generally hits the spot.

I like to look up old girlfriends [when the wife is not around!] but it usually ends up in disappointment!

fb market place has nearly taken over the place of Craigslist as it appears to be more safer but still has it's share of scammers.

fb has no way, that I know of, to post a thread of say a project and update it on a consistent basis, seems posts just get buried.  It that respect and many more, this forum is far superior.  Even so, I do like the fakebook groups...

What is crazy is when somebody revives a zombie post from 5 years ago, you get ready to post and think "hmmmmm" and go back and look and you DID post 5 years ago about exactly what you were ready to type in and hit enter LOL.

Facebook marketplace is just as questionable as anything else, but it has taken over, what replaces it next is the 64 thousand dollar question...
Start with the end in mind...
