Flash Rust Tank

Was surprised to see this flash rust in my CB400 tank. It seemed to just recently appear. Same thing on my GT380 although to a lesser degree. What is your recommendations for cleaning it and preventing it from happening again? Thanks.

I use EvapoRust to get rid of the rust and rinse several times with diesel. The diesel will prevent the flash rust until you use it. I just can't use water to rinse a derusted tank, it seems so wrong. 8)

Evapo-Rust does work well and it does seem wrong to slosh H2O in your de-rusted tank doesn't it!!!!

I rinse with a bit of diesel fuel mixed with Avery small amount of 2-stroke oil.

Vinegar is cheap and it works or you could also make your own evaporust at home.

To prevent rust in the future you could line it with POR-15 or something like that but that seems like a pain. If you're going to use the tank immediately I'd just fill it up and try to keep it filled as much as possible.

The rust inside rubs off with my finger. For now, I just put some Mystery oil in and filled the tank. Rust spots still there but I don't think they are going to cause a problem. I do have a see-thru fuel filter installed on the gas line. Do appreciate your comments.
