Topic: CB550K new rims. Size and Rising Sun 4into1 Question.

Hi All,

I'm about to order new rims and spokes for my 74 550K.  I kinda tweaked the rear rim changing the tire but they are old and rusty inside, so let's do this.

My question.  I'm thinking of sticking with the 1.85" in the front and going up to a 2.15" in the rear.  Sound like a plan?  I can't think of a reason not to.  I have read some other threads here on the matter, it seems the 2.15" rear is a worthy upgrade when running the 4.00 rear tire. 

Am I on track to success?  Any other ideas?

BTW, I'm thinking of 4into1 rim/spoke combo.  I'd like to go fancier, but having bought a whole bunch of parts recently to get this now-to-me bike shipshape, am very tight on budget.  I don't really need the front.  Considered going with a DID chrome steel rear, but the rim itself is basically the same price as the "Rising Sun" aluminum rim and spoke set combo.  I do like the chrome look though.  Hope these rims are shiny at least.  I don't see a review of these rims unless I'm missing it.  Is anyone here running this combo 1.85/2.15 Rising Sun from 4into1?  If so, are you happy with them?

I'll keep looking at brands/wheels.  Also interested in size though.  1.85 vs 2.15 rear wheel for the 4.00-18 tire?

I dont see a problem in the .30" increase in wheel width.  [I run a 4x18" on a stock 1.85 wheel on my 550F.]

Bridgestone gives range of 2.15～3.00 for the 4.00 rim size with recommendation of 2.5.  The 2.15 isn't much of a jump from the 1.85" but at least brings it into the recommended range.  If there is a reason to stick with the 1.85" rear rim I'd be happy to hear it.  I guess I'm already making a size jump over the 3.75"-18 stock tire size, due to availability.

IIRC the CB750 got the 2.15 rim as standard. Fairly sure it has the same 40 spokes so why not find a good 750 rear rim second hand and fit that?

Buchanans carries their 'house brand' Sun alloy rims which they 'drill to spec' spoke holes,depending on the bike you have.
