Topic: K8 Honda tank emblem-Gold color removal?

For the K7/K8 bikes, the Honda tank emblem comes in a Gold finish.

Has anyone had any success with painting over the Gold, or sanding the Gold off?

What are you looking to do with the finish? If you want silver letters you maybe able to find aftermarket badges that meet that colour combination.

Yes, was thinking of going to silver letters.

I haven't been able to find silver letter badges that screw on like the K8 badge.

Took the dremel tool to it to see if the Gold plating would come off, it did.

I dislike the Gold so will be removing the color from the emblems....

Before and after.  I still need to do some sanding/polishing, not complete yet.

Oddly I had the opposite problem, finding a gold finish after it peeled off on mine. I ended up using 25K gold leaf, maybe you could try silver leaf ? Needs lacquering after though as it's kinda soft and the glue may not be petrol proof.

We had a set chromed, they came out very nice.

LOL, I guess so...... I do plan to paint my K8 tank/side covers soon, just trying to pick a color.
