400F Fork Brace
« on: March 21, 2007, 09:11:01 AM »

Does anyone know where to get a fork brace for a 400F.  Anyone using them?

These are rather hard to find. The 400 is a bit different from other Hondas and I've never found another bike's fork brace to fit it. I haven't yet found a 360 twin brace and that might work - the disc brake parts are the same at least and possibly the fork dimensions and spacing are identical.
If you really need a brace, any decent machine shop can make one (or maybe you have access to a milling machine?) for either the tubes or sliders. Kevin (www.400fourstore.com) has billet triple trees that make the forks more rigid; not cheap and you'll need to find some handlebar mounts unless you like clipons though. If you're removing or changing the front fender you should keep the original fender mount (and fork brace) or add some kind of brace to the sliders, the bike gets very scary to ride without something stiff in there.

tarozzi in italy still make them, just bought a set for my cb500 racer and reasonably prized too at 60 euro.

although its not the same as the one you need, i've seen that they had the CB400 one in the catalog.

their website is hard to find since they dont appear under tarozzi but I have the link in my computer at work

wil send it to you tomorrow

I also got a quote from telefix in germany but it was double the price!

there's a gentlemen on this site that has aftermarket billet pieces for 400's from S. Africa.

Thanks for the response.  In reference to removing the fender, I can't see that the fender would add that much stiffness to the forks.  Maybe I'm wrong as I havn't ridden the bike with the fender off.

found the link but looks like they have a CB400N only brace.

still, measure the diameter of the area where the brace clamps as maybe something there could work.

There's a fork brace incorporated into the bottom of the fender.  It's not as stiff as an aftermarket brace would be, but much better than nothing.
