« on: December 27, 2024, 08:40:52 AM »
70’ ko, stock studs. I torqued to 16.5 ft lbs last night. What do you think? Oh vesrah gasket & no machining work.I also using those 2 acorn nuts with copper washers on the 2 outside corners per yamiya?

I torqued my CB750 K6 stock studs and nuts with 28Nm (20.65 lb ft), fiber gasket, back in the 80's. Tool from my job used in production so it was frequently calibrated to be accurate.

Tightened in several steps from inner to outer. 5, 10, 15 20....
All M6 10Nm (7.37 ft lb)
Did that several times due to rebuilds. The stock studs are really durable.

836cc with higher compression than stock.

My K6 today has hd studs with stock nuts and washers. Ca 21.8 ft lb (29.5 Nm) last time, over 2 years ago.
Now MLS gasket.

There's a rumor going around that after it is torqued, after 24-48 hours or so loosen all the head bolts (in order) and then re-torque to your final settings.

I did this on a 750 and 550 (of course both heads and cylinders had been skimmed) and both seem ok after a couple thousand miles.

I used vesrah gaskets as well.

Yes, fiber gaskets really need that.
They compress so you can tighten the final torque again and nut will move without loosen it.

My K2 got a Vesrah head gasket last time. It was black and  harder than the  grey graphite gaskets I have used before.
It did not compress much or any after 24 hours. I loosened the nuts one by one 1/4 turn, torqued the final numbers again, next nut....

Sounds like I’m good to go then..whew! And it also seems I didn’t really need the 2 acorn w/copper washers either on my 33xxx ko either…? Thanks for everyone’s opinion👍 Happy trails…or Holidays!

Oddly, cometic mls gasket instructions are to prep the surface and torque to factory spec (on 500/550)

Whereas their hdbigtwin gaskets step beyond oem.

My next gasket will probably get a few extra clicks.  To hold onto the 1bar boost pressure.
