Vac Sync questions
« on: January 07, 2025, 05:23:38 PM »
Memory refresher on syncing carbs, just some final tweaks to make my '76 CB550K road ready:

1 Do I need to sync the carbs if I changed the needle clip position?

2 Does the bike need to be completely warmed up for syncing?

Thanks.

Valves adjusted too.
I synchronize last, after all tune up steps are done.
Bike warm, fan blowing on it from the front.

Been through everything else. Was running a bit rich so I changed needle clip position by 1 notch. Will do a carb sync and it should be ready for the road.

Just for posterity, what position did you change to?

Went from 4th from the top to 3rd or middle slot. It will lower the needle in the needle jet. The bike came with PODs so I'm fiddling with it to get to run the most efficient possible without the OEM intake set up. Also came with a 4 into 1 exhaust. I bought one size bigger main jets, using the OEM size pilot jets. So far it starts good, runs good. It takes a bit for the idle to settle so I think the running rich might cause that. It 's a winter project. The only problem is road testing this time of year. Got more snow today. :/

The center position is where I ended up on my '76 550K (stock airbox/stock pipes, stock jets).  If yours is like mine, it will run perfect after it warms up, but I need to use the choke a little more because it is leaner when cold.  Also just a little harder to start cold.
