Case sealant and oil seal questions
« on: January 09, 2025, 06:13:17 AM »
I searched around but nothing recent.  Looking to see what people are using these days to seal the case halves.  I used Threebond 1184 on my 911 engine which is what the Porsche air cooled community universally recommends.

Also, had questions regarding the oil seals on either end of the crankshaft and the ones at the left side of the main and counter shafts.   Are these installed on the crank and shafts prior to their installation in the case or are they pressed in after.

If installed prior, should I be using something like Curil-T on the oil seals where they contact the case?

Thanks.

1184 is fine. Seals are installed on the crank then set in the upper case.

Threebond is good.

Hondabond case sealer and permatex ultra-grey are essentially the same product.
Whats more important is to use the right amount in the proper areas.  Too little actually led to a factory recall in 2023.
