Topic: Fork help please

Now for the problem of the day.  I've got the fork seals out using a special tool, not easy but doable.  The problem I have with both sides of my forks now is the bottom hex bolt on each spins freely.  I can't get either one out and I can't tighten them again either.  I'm thinking I shouldn't have touched them...

I assume the top tube won't come out without removing the bottom hex bolt?

Standard trick is to insert a length of broom handle down the tube to hold the damper rod in place, then you can turn the bolt.

An air impact tool also allows inertia to both free and tighten those allen bolts.  Carefull with the tool's torque setting upon tightening.

The broom trick worked.  I do have to start using my impact tools more.

Good deal!  Make sure you have the tubes in the lower fork legs when you install the new seals, just slide em down then use a peice of PVC pipe to slide hammer them into place.  That will ensure they seat evenly in the groove.  Mabey you already know all of that, but it sounds like you havent done it before...so.
