Anybody purchased 750 NOS seats on ebay?
« on: March 30, 2007, 09:15:44 AM »
Will be needing a new seat and those advertised on ebay really look awesome.

Has anybody bought one?
Are they quality vinyl?
Are they comfortable for like a 2-3 hr ride?
Am I better off rigging up a factory seat from a recent bike to fit mine?

I really like the way they look, new vinyl and everything, but at almost $300 I'm having second thoughts.

You nearly had me going Andy! At the current exch rate they are like 260 plus the mandatory shipping.

Reminds me of when I tried to buy a pair of rims from Central Wheel.

But thanks ;)

Yeah, I got a new one a few years back, but it wasn't that expensive (the ones on there now are still less the going rate for one from a dealer, if there are any left).

They are good quality, but I've never done a 3-hour haul on it.

I bought this one last August from the fellow in Canada (Bits4u) or something like that. It is OEM, not NOS. It came with all of the mounting brackets, latch pin, document door - chrome trim - everything. I a very happy with it because it's 100% stock. Cost was $259 + shipping. I've bougt several things from him and have been 100% satisfied.

Comfortable ? I only like Corbins for comfort, but would never put one on this bike.

Same guy I bought mine from. If you are a purist, the pattern on the top is different from the original K3-K5 bikes.

I bought one of the "pattern" repro seats from DSS and I am dissapointed with it. The seat pan is made out of plastic, the chrome trim is chromed plastic that is just pressed on and comes off all the time, it doesn't come with the hinges and latch like the NOS or OEM versions, no document holder. The worst thing is that after using it for the first time on a two hour ride the vinyl on the front edge of the seat near the tank is now cut on both sides from something sharp on the inside of the pan where the vinyl wraps around! I had originally bought a NOS seat off of ebay that was for the wrong year, but the quality of the Honda seat vs. DSS is in a different league - especially when they cost about the same when shipped to the U.S.

I had one quoted by this fellow in Canada two years ago but didn't buy it then, the bike had bigger issues. I haven't seen him on ebay lately. That seat makes your bike look new.

"That seat makes your bike look new."  Let's talk about your bike for a sec.  Dude - everything on your bike makes it look new.  Your seat happens to be one of those things.  How do you manage to make me feel so terrible and good at the same time?  What a nice looking bike.  long sigh.  I have a seat cover that I'm just not happy with - (mostly 'cause it don't say HONDA on the back).  I will probably go NOS or OEM.   Thanks for the leads.

Uh guys, where ya'll been? This is my $112 bike I bought on EBay last June. I washed it twice and it came out looking like this (well not quite)--- I didn't have a seat when I started.

The seats from this EBay seller - Bits4U are fantastic in my opinion. I may buy another one and set it back for later. They are the original metal and are "Original Equipment Manufacturer" parts. NOS is of course 'New Old Stock" - meaning it would have to be sitting on the shelf for 33 years. I don't want a 33 year old vinyl and foam seat personally if I was going to ride it. Some things are desirable as NOS, seats aren't one of them is you're going to use it.

Gordon

What about K7 and K8 NOS seats? Or, re-manufactured for that matter. Can the K0-K6 seats be modded to with? With relative ease that is, I mean everything can be made (forced) to fit.

I was informed that Honda did still have some available, but they are not currently producing them.

Hey, Ilbikes.. Great Work!!! (although your Honda wing is pointing the wrong way on the left sidecover  8))

That guys E bay name is bikesnbits4u. He was advertising for seats for the k0-k1 also, but not the early duck tail style, as well as the k2-k6 if anyones interested. His auctions appear periodically.
