Splitting stubborn engine cases 750K
« on: June 19, 2005, 12:53:25 PM »
Working on getting my engine cases apart and of course they are being suborn.  I tried supporting the top at the rear where engine mounts to the frame then hitting it with a hammer and 2x4 at the bottom engine mount.  Not even a budge.  Any tricks I’m missing?

Thanks!

Had the same problem.

Take a long, slow, patient look. You're forgetting one single bolt somewhere.

I know it sounds dumb, but I had to come back the next morning and look and there it was, and I was completely sure I'd gotten them all.

I think that you missed a bolt somewhere,I have done that at times,it is easy to overlook one that is hidden. You should not have to do more than moderate pressure to split them if all the bolts are out. I have seen a few oilpans on autos that come off hard, allmost ruin the pan getting it off,but they are the ones that are put on with silicone cement.
