New Fuel tanks from India
« on: March 31, 2025, 05:11:04 PM »
Anybody tried these brand new fuel tanks coming out of India? Can't beat the price and free shipping. Less $$$ than used beat up tanks others are selling. Definitely curious about the quality but the paint looks sharp.

Wrong gas cap for the purists but cheaper than painting one if the finish is good

the alloy tanks from india are reputed to be good quality though i have heard reports of pin hole leaks in the welds. probably wouldn't hurt to put a tankliner kit through before filling with petrol
i blame Terry

They do seem to have a large variety of tanks for a very wide variety of bikes.

If you look at the bottom, where the steel was stamped originally, you can see these are crudely hand beaten into a facsimile...but that is how they have done it so cheaply.  I think I can see that the overall shape is subtly wrong...could never know for sure until it's side by side with a stocker.
If it works good, it looks good...

Yes I'd think that these might be useful tanks that sort-of fit, but quality may not be up to even pattern part standards.

There's a post over on the twins sight by someone who ordered one and is pretty happy, albeit a few minor issues:

Not sure if it's the same manufacturer but he says they have other CB tanks.

Ha, I was just going to post this. That Hawk tank looks pretty good.
Those Indian tanks aren't Yamiya-level reproductions but for the price they're not bad at all.
The 550 tanks look decent although I'd rather have the threaded petcock mount from the later tanks.

When I've tried it, my hand is steady until I get near the [object to paint], then it starts shaking.

Some folks have what I think is called "essential tremor" in their hands. Until they grasp something they have some shakes.
James Hamilton on his Stumpy Nubs woodworking channel has it, he talks about it but seems to be able to compensate.

One thing I found about the bare Aluminum tanks is that the Aluminum is very soft and scratches very easily.

Protect it ! ! !
