I have been very impressed with the Honda's screws and case threads.

I too have been extremely impressed with the case threads. We are working on the Alternator cover today.  The interior  screws holding down the stator coil are threaded nearly parallel to the inside of the cover with reinforced threads.  Really impressive construction by Honda.  I will take photos tomorrow and post.

Next Up  in the Hammer Testing???

1. 1.5Kg short handle sledge on the left
2. Well worn dead blow in the center (you can hear the pellets shaking in the middle)
3. Unidentified hammer with good weight and excellent balance on the right

All bought at the 2nd hand Japan tool shop for very little money

I've collected an assortment of hammers over the years, here are most in my tool box along with my impact driver...

The Dewalt framing hammer is my choice to use with the impact, a sledge is not necessary.

About 12 years ago I bought a 2nd Vessel impact driver and was sort of disappointed by its performance until one day I remembered something accidental with my first (and favorite) one that made it better: I was draining oil from a SuperHawk and also removing the chain cover (with the driver) when I dropped the impact tool in the oil (actually, I hit my hand with the hammer, making me drop it, for not bothering to kneel down...). It was completely submerged while I walked around the shop looking for some large pliers to retrieve it with. When I got it out and let it drain overnight and then cleaned it, it worked 300% better (or more) than before! So, when I bought this 2nd one I (voluntarily) did the same thing to the tool after struggling with it on a 750 disassembly, and it also made it work better.

Messy, though...and it dribbles for a week...
I've hit my hand with a big hammer many times like that.

I'll have to try the oil soak of my 1970s Craftsman hand impact. It still works good, maybe it will be better yet? I like the idea.
I'll bend up an old metal wire shirt hanger as a wrap around sling for it to drip into a pan.

Craftsman made them? I'll bet those are pretty good ones.

Right now we are cleaning the alternator cover. Paint strips off easily and then cleaned in a tub of kerosene and dawn liquid detergent. This photo is during the 1st round of sanding with aggressive 80 grit.   As a quick note I am not cleaning the parts as the workers in my little village are much better.  They are stay at home Moms with young children and they like the work as they can do it in their own home and on their schedule.   I pay them well and they do exceptional work.

2nd round will be  vinegar mixed with baking soda applied as a thick paste and spread on with a toothbrush. Hopefully this will remove the deeper black stains.   Then higher 220 grit.

Yes they did.
It has a 1/2" drive so it is stout, and uses 5/16" bits. I think I've only broken 1 bit over the years on it. I bought a set of JIS bits for it this past year. The thing will probably outlast me.

Piece by Piece  :D

With the right tools so far success with the screws - many thanks for the help and assistance with choosing the screwdriver and hammer.  Also the advice of fitting tightly and  holding and twisting the impact screwdriver before hitting with a hammer made a HUGE difference.  Thank You! Sprocket, gear shifter, and alternator covers stripped and refinished (they will be polished later and the background of the HONDA logo painted black).  New Yamiya screws fit perfectly.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. It means a lot to me  :)  It is slow going but I'm surprised that I'm finding that I really like doing the work.    It is often challenging but rewarding when you get it done.   This bike will never be a show bike but it deserves to be in better  shape. A little at a time - piece by piece!

As a reminder this is what I started with.  It looked awful!

Very impressed with the quality of the parts on the Honda CB750

Gear shift lever.  Beautiful machining and high quality chrome plating

Much better construction and finishing than the gear shift lever on my Honda CRF250L which is actually from a Kawasaki KLX250 - longer length and retractable head so it does not break when the bike is dropped
