Seat Cover Procedure?
« on: April 17, 2025, 11:35:56 AM »
Is there an SOP or video on here anywhere that details how to replace the seat cover on a CB550K? I've got enough seat pan to work with, but I'm not too sure how to get the dang thing on.

Check YouTube. If your fingers don't hurt when you are done then it's not tight enough. I've done a few, but you need to have good foam and a good quality cover.

it makes it easier if the new cover is warmed up, let it sit in the sun.

Very true! I also never tackle the job alone. I have a good friend that does a lot of leather work (makes custom skates for several pro hockey players) who not only has a real feel for this kind of work and fingers that work like vice grips! A box full of small bull dog clips is useful too.

Also, on two occasions I have purchased covers that were just crap. If you test fit the cover and it seems all wrong, it probably is.  I had an EBay cover for my K0 that was junk. The one from Yamiya fit perfectly and is identical to the original. It was twice the price and 5X Better. Make sure you start with excellent “parts”.

Agree...I also have the Yamiya red foam and cover on my KO. Exactly like OEM. Yamiya is your best bet and no surprises once you get whatever you buy from them.

Get a big box of small bulldog clips and use just them to hold it on at first so you can keep adjusting it until you have it perfect. Then permanently attach the cover working on (remove some clips from) a small section at a time before removing the bulldog clips from the next small section etc..

I took my 550 seat to a shop along with the cover I bought from ebay, seems to be good quality.

Those guys ^ speak truth ^
I also get some polyester fiber sheet and use it to cover the seat foam gaps a little. I didn't use it on the last seat I did, and the cover seems a little loose.
This time at Joann fabrics I got 2 yards because they are closing. I thought I invented the folder clip/bulldog clip method, but it seems like everyone does it.
A split garbage bag under the new cover helps it so slide into place also.

I'd like to know that question myself - the seat I have came with some sort of white edge-grip, or protector, but I think it would look better in silver or chrome.

We use painters plastic under the new cover and have a pneumatic stapler. I have a Paul to do the stretching. We've done enough seats that I don't even have to tell him where and how much to stretch the cover. ;D
Today we recovered the 84' Honda VF 1000F Interceptor seat. A high quality cover makes a huge difference. 8)
