Feel like an a$$, dropped my 750 today.
« on: April 21, 2025, 12:57:31 PM »
Feel like an a$$, I rode over to a Doc appointment this afternoon about 12 miles away.

Got into a large parking lot (no cars nearby) and decided to try to put the bike on the center stand.  As soon as I started I realized I was parked in a spot that was a little down hill, with a little slope going to the right side of the bike.

I immediately got off balance and down it went on the right side.  I kind of let it go as to not injure a shoulder (4 previous surgeries).  I was able to get it upright fairly quickly with no issues (put my butt against the seat and used my legs).

A little damage, as the right mirror got bent (already straightened out), and my brake lever little ball on the end popped off.  Points cover took a small dent near the bottom, not to worried about that.

Will see how well the 2k clear (Spraymax) holds up to some fuel spilling out of the tank cap.  Luckily is was only about 1/3 full.

I think my pride is hurt more than the bike.

Anyway, need to find a brake lever........argh.

Sad news, welcome to the club! Wash down that tank, especially flush out the bottom trim strip.

Thanks for the kind comments guys.  One thing I learned today was to take my time and evaluate the landscape better, instead of trying to do something quickly, I rushed myself.

There are two kinds of bike guys, the ones that have dropped a bike and the ones that haven't dropped a bike, yet. It's way better to not be on it when it goes down, I've done both, so I know first hand.

I won't mention HOW MANY TIMES my 750 has been on its side...I've learned some cool things from it, though, like how to un-dent the points cover, how to straighten a brake pedal (and replace it more easily after the first time), straighten the handlebars back down (it was loaded over 600 lbs that time), and finally: how to better scope out another parking spot(!).

Sorry for the scrapes! :(

I often notice that small mistakes and accidents have helped me to avoid worse.
My bike usually on clutch side, damage alternator cover anf left hand control unit.
There are ign covers without any text at all for not much. Next is SOHC version.

Aftermarket  lever is cheap, Honda stock cost more.
Spray Max 2k clear withstand fuel very well. I have splashed some on my K2.

Park the bike where wheels stands on higher ground than side stand is one way to drop bike. Enough with a little negative bump for side stand.

+1
I remember one time a buddy came over for a ride, rolled the bike out the garage and without thinking, didnt put the sidestand down and the bike went down!  Picked it up immediately, the bars bent but no other damage. Just bent them back and off we went...

I've noticed I still have the "twitch" that comes from the modern metric tires being taller, when I go to let the bike 'fall' over to the sidestand without thinking about it, and it goes further than my 50+ years' reflexes want it to?

Maybe I should get some 80-profile tires...
