Gas Tank Sizes and Swaps Table
« on: January 10, 2008, 09:29:55 AM »
Hi folks,

There's a lot of emails about tank swapping e.g., CB750 tank fits on a CB550, etc.  I'll put together a table to show various tanks, Honda or not, there sizes, and any swaps made to other bikes with the associated modifications.  Once done, I'll post for everyone's future use.

If you want to add to this list send me:

1. What type of Gas tank from what motorcycle model (e.g. 1974 Honda CB750)
2. What are the dimensions (LxWxH) measured from the outermost points (e.g., 25x9x9)
3. (Optional) What other bikes can this tank fit to (e.g. CB500, CB550)
4. (Optional) Where there any necessary modifications to this (e.g., Cut/Shave rubber mounts)

James

Sounds like you've taken quite the challenge.  Look forward to seeing your chart/table.

jj,

I have a tank off a '74 CB360 mounted on my '75 750F.
Much smaller than stock.  L==20", W=10", H= 8"
No mod necessary.
Shows a lot more engine.
Seems to stretch a little bit, though.

I'm curious about this list of tanks. Does it exist?

I haven't seen a list yet. This is a 2008 post that fell off shortly(same day!) after it started.
The original poster isn't even on the forum any longer or didn't register. Most who posted haven't been active in a while.

I do know that the CB550 tank does not fit the CB750 frame, the 750 has the extra frame rails below the main spar that requires a wider tunnel under the tank(unique to the 750?)

I think the list of swaps (without modifications) is going to be very short, which is why the thread died. A longer list would be the incompatible tank swaps, including from the same model/different year/K or F.
