Topic: Best way to repair odometer zeroer CB400F?

The odometer zeroing knob on my CB400F is a bit bent, and the rubber grommet for it has come off/out of the instrument cluster. Photo attached. I bought some more grommets, but I can't find any instructions on disassembling/reassembling.

 Taking the gauge apart is not a simple task, I'd attempt to straighten it maybe with two needle nose pliers and tuck the boot in with a non-sharp but pointy tool.

   To be honest, it's a common problem, one of mine has the same issue. I've just learned to live with it, and don't ride in the rain.... If someone's got a solution, (short of disassembly) I'm all ears...

To fix it correctly you will need to separate the case. The 400F does not have a screw or set screw holding the knob on. The small rusted shaft you see is part of the knob. It screws into the aluminum body  of the odometer. You need to use a hot iron to heat it up as it is secured with lock tight.holding each side with needle nose pliers. My soldering iron would not get it hot enough so I heated a nail red hot with a torch and applied heat that way
 This is not an easy fix.
