Flasher relay - where to source
« on: May 17, 2025, 05:34:09 PM »
Fairly certain the directional relay on my 500/4 is bad.  For the heck of it, I swapped in the relay from my CT70 and when I hit the directional switch, the directionals light up but no blinking.  The directional indicator light also lights up.   I know the 70 is 6 volts so I wasn’t sure what would happen.

Where should get get a new relay from?  I found these:

I bought a 2-wire electronic unit fro O'Reilley Auto (sp?) for my 750. It works fine. :)
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Do these electronic units use the unused ground wire in the panel?  Not sure what makes it “electronic.”

I'm pretty sure I used an EP35 flasher relay on my bike.
It's three prong so it uses the ground wire.
But as HM mentioned, they make two wire relays as well.
The electronic flasher uses a solid state relay. The original flasher uses a bi-metal strip.

These work well on our bikes and they clip on to the factory bracket. And they are only $8.00

If you ever switch to LED turn signals the electronic flasher will be a must-do.

Just buy a 2 prong flasher unit and leave the green earth wire unattached.
Trust me I'm a Nurse, I promise it won't hurt....much

I first used a cheap flasher relay for old cars. Fitted like the original CB750.

It stopped work after a few years. Next from Yamiya. 3 connections, only 2 needed to connect.

Thanks for the input.  I ordered the one Ozzy recommended.  Now if I could only get Delkevic to send me an exhaust I could ride the bike.
