1980 CB650 RC03 Braided Brake lines tips
« on: June 01, 2025, 02:54:52 AM »
Hello!

I own a 1980 CB650 RC03 and I'm looking to upgrade to steel braided brake lines to improve the breaking a little bit. I wanted to see if anyone has got any tips on brands or sets of brake lines that works well?

I am situated in Gothenburg, Sweden, so sites/companies that ship to here are preferred, although all tips are appreciated :)

Thanks!

I like Speigler but have used Galfer in the past. Speigler allow you to turn the banjos so everything fits nicely.

I used HEL braided lines on my 750, which is a 2 piece line. Fitted perfect and came with the replacement hardware to fit them. I went for their black outer, so it looks stock. I used their lines on my 2 disk Bandit, too. Happy customer.

If you are reasonably mechanically minded they are simple to assemble yourself, fittins and pipe available on ebay, depends a lot on your countries import duties etc
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

I've searched a bit and found some alternatives, although I can't really figure out the model codes for this bike  ??? I know there's a CB650C variant that is a bit different, would cables for that fit my standard? Then Spiegler lists cables for CB650 K from 80, and HEL has cables for a CB650 Z from 82 and onwards...

Are these letters just per market, or do they mean something else?

A bit curious on the 3 to 2 line conversion, do both lines go to the master cylinder then?

I'm quite new in the garage, so I think I'll leave it up to the pros for now  ;D Would hate to bust a brake line when I need the stopping power...

Found a kit from probrake.de which matches my model exactly, has anyone got any experience with them?

...

Mine's a 750K6. So only 2 lines needed replacing. 1. From m/c to brake light switch splitter, then 2. From there down to the metal line that goes inside the fork leg to the calliper.  Just making the point they copied the original set up exactly. 👍

Ok I understand, I think Probrake had a kit for a 3-2 line conversion so I thought you'd gotten one of those, but I see. Thanks for the tip! :)
