Sub Frame Wiring Question
« on: June 01, 2025, 01:11:08 PM »
I'm starting to put in the wiring harness for my '73 CB550/Four, and a few months ago ordered what I thought was the correct sub-frame wiring harness for it, but it is apparently not - this new sub-frame wiring is allegedly for a '77-'78 CB550k; hopefully someone in here will be able to advise me on this.

In short, the new sub-frame wiring harness does not have a set of connectors for the solenoid; in the pic/yellow circle in the middle, you can see the Pink and Yellow/Red from the new solenoid clips into the old Black and Yellow/Red bullet connectors on the old wiring. Up top, you can see where the Black and Yellow/Red wires go into the connector, and from there into the main harness.

On the left, you see the new sub-frame harness with the Black and Gray wires circled, but there is no Yellow/Red and Black bullet connector on the new harness anywhere. According to CSMNL, a sub-frame wiring harness for this bike does exist (Part # 32100461770 ) but is currently Unavailable - and even if was, it's $278! So, No...I would add that the Gray and Black wires on the new connector correspond with the Black and Yellow/Red wires on the old one - so can I clip the other end of those and put on some new bullet connectors?

I'm pretty good with Dicing and Splicing, so my Question is, what wires can I splice to add in a connector for the solenoid?

73 totally different from 77/78, dont think 73 had starter safety circuit
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Exactly. I replaced the whole harness on my '74 550 with a new one from 4-in-1. No issues.
Also, that PN (32100-461-770) isn't for a 550.

Yeah, I checked out their site, they have one on eBay for $20; looks like the right one, so...
