Manual Cam Chain Adjuster Bolt - CB400F
« on: June 05, 2025, 10:26:05 AM »
hello everyone
Does anyone use this cam chain tensioner method?

I have changed the timing chain, guide, tensioner, dampers and plunger springs. Now it should work without noise. but I have read that the chain adjustment method only works theoretically and people need to push the plunger with a screwdriver to increase the pressure.
The 4 into 1 system seems correct to me for the adjustment, does anyone have any problems?

Warning
4into1 sells cheap Chinese knockoff parts that are made with inferior materials and threads. I haven't bought one of those bolts but did have a brake banjo bolt break and a couple throttle cables come with bad threads that don't match the threads of the supplied nuts to hold the cable solid to the carbs, amongst a few other parts problems. I will not recommend anyone buy from them.

VERY easy to overtighten the chain with that bolt

Those are best avoided, they tend to be used where the rest of the mechanism is knackered. As you have changed everything else it should be working just fine now- if you have any concerns just take off the cam cover & check there is no slack in the chain.

Thank you very much for your answers.
Yes, if I already know these qualities, I have the tools to build it myself. In other Honda bi and mono, I have used manual adjusters, but I was not sure how it could work with the CB400F system. I will use the original Honda system, if I can't tighten it I will try the manual screw

[...] and people need to push the plunger with a screwdriver to increase the pressure.

Experienced mechanics used a hammer to tap and free it. Not too hard ofcourse.

DO NOT do it with the engine running

1 it dont work

2 you will burn your hands/fingers

First loosen the locknut and bolt

Put weight on the kickstart till you feel the engine just about to turn

Whilst hold this position nip up the lock bolt(doing both at same time is most difficult bit)
