Sissy bars. Differences between years?
« on: July 12, 2025, 06:51:52 AM »
I am starting to look for a period correct sissy bar for my 78 cb750k. I was wondering how much difference there is in the mounting between 69-78?

I have a stock frame but am looking for a chopper style sissy bar. I have seen a few online but they have been for years other than my 78.

Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you.

The later models are longer and I believe the mounting bolt locations are further apart than the early ones.

I kinda figured it was something like that looking at the pictures but couldn't be sure. Thank you. This is gonna make finding one more difficult

That is sick man! I ideally want a shorter trident sissy bar. I am not going full on chopper but want some chopper components incorporated

Nice. Same here. One of the Yamiya dudes has a similar style that I'm totally stealing. Haha.

Dude that is uncanny! I am going to be using front end and wheels off a 1981 kz1000 ltd. Also looking for fork gaiters. My seat is the stock 78 seat modified into a king queen. Looking for pretty much exactly that! I will be rocking Jarden turn outs. Just need to score the sissy bar and you know a whole lot of other stuff, LOL

I get luggage racks and then have a welder modify them to fit;they do look modded, but work great.
Have you considered going to a welder somewhere and have them build a Sissy bar in the style you like, made out of Stainless steel? Stainless will polish-up and look nice.
75' CB400F/'bunch o' parts'
I love the small ones too !

I am considering building one myself. I don't have a welder at the moment but they come up on marketplace for a good price fairly regularly. I have built several sissy bars over the years. I have one I built off my old Harley that I am considering modifying to make work.

69-76 have 7" spread between the shock bolt and the rear fender bolt.
77 & 78 are 10" spread.

I have a sissy bar off of a 78K available that is showing age but is usable and is repairable.

No doubt a good stitcher could unstitch that and cut a new band around it.

I have some related parts, a trident type sissy bar, misc aluminum foot pegs, twisted steel high way bar, maybe even +5" early 750 forks. Shoot me a pm if anyone is interested.

Bless Newday777 for the effort of getting me a shipping quote.  Unfortunately the cost of shipping was more than I could manage.

Am thinking of reviving this old sissy bar I had on my Harley. I don't have the same equipment I did when I made it so I would have to get creative and call in a few favors from friends.
