Original Koni 76P-1413
« on: July 31, 2025, 12:55:07 PM »
I bought these ages ago and they disappeared in my shop. I had them packaged up nicely, standing in the corner of a shelf and stumbled on them today. Clearly stamped 76P-1413.

Took one apart and adjusted it right down (fully compressed, with spring removed, and rotated the shaft fully counter clockwise). Spotless shaft, no leaks and works perfectly! 14.3 inches (fully extended, eye to eye), they seem a match for the new IKON 7610-1413.

The black painted springs have no chips or corrosion and the shock bodies are unmarked. Seem to have very little use. Maybe none?

Pondered how to dismantle them for a while. None of my spring compressors would grab the bottom of the spring without marring the shock body. Set up a ratchet strap and had it apart in a few minutes! Unloaded the strap one click at a time…..

Anyone have a set of these on their cb750? Thinking of trying them on my 1971 cb750K1. How many turns did you run up the rebound setting?

Stu….. they only appear to be +1/2” vs. the ones on my K1?  Looks like they were originally for the later cb750F or twin shock CBX1000.

Stu….. I suspect mine are too. Thinking about it last night, I might try a slightly lower spring on the Koni (I have a few sets) and see if I can get them down an inch?

They are in excellent shape and look so good!

Shorter spring may well leave the retaining collets loose, only safe way would be to shorten the damper rod

Agreed….. If I can’t get a softer set and make them a snug fit with the preload adjustment, it’s not on.
