Front Brakes slider pin play
« on: August 19, 2025, 02:32:24 AM »
My `81 CB650C has play at the brake slide (guide) pins, I rebuilt the brakes last year but the alu housing of the calipers themselves has worn out.
Now the calipers make a lot of rattling noise, also visible movement.

Solutions?
I thought about drilling and press fitting bronze bushings?
Or buying some calipers off whatever (Honda) bike and milling some adapters but I would love to keep it original

I have a machine shop with mill, lathe, press, ...

Kind regards, Jan.

The play in my older bikes seem to be vertical, I'm considering a wave type spring washer in there to lessen the rattle.

The500 twin and four and the 550 all share the same parts, possibly the 40 as well and the 360 twin so many used ones out there.

The '81 650 calipers are different than the other bikes; possibly the same as the F2/3 750 and Goldwings?
Jan, you may be able to use an '82 up two piston caliper using factory parts. These calipers are superior to the single piston calipers, and were used on a zillion different Hondas. ;D
