350F Carb Slide Won't! SOLVED
« on: October 06, 2025, 08:36:22 AM »
I'm rebuilding the carbs on a '72 CB350 Four and all was well until I got to Number 4 - the slide does not want to go in! Yes, I have the notch lined up and everything is where it should be - but the slide will not go in, it gets stuck at the top of the carb barrel. It came out okay when I took the carb apart, and I was careful when taking them apart to keep each carb in its respective parts container, but I've never had a carb slide stick before - I mean really stick, like it's grabbing; it won't go into the carb, like it's almost too big for the bore...any ideas??

This is with linkage disconnected? They almost go in if you attatch the linkage when they are too high. Pushes them slightly sideways and they bind up.also look to see if the needle in entering the orifice/ emulsion tube

Hi Ozz - yeah, I finally got it - I added a copious amount of WD40 to the slide and it went in and seems to move smoothly in the bore, but I've never had a slide stick like that, almost like it was too big...problem solved, I guess, but it was tight going in. I didn't force it (learned that lesson a long time ago), but once it got past a certain point it slid right in, thankfully. Everything seems to be good now. This carb has been a job.

 I have a 750 K4 with stuck slides, I guess it's dried fuel buildup.

Boil the carbs - it loosens up the jets and all the varnish on the slides. I put mine in an enamel pot I have reserved for just such an operation and then put it on a camping stove, let it get good and hot - it makes it a lot easier to get everything apart, then clean everything up with brake cleaner.
