World Super Bike Valencia - Wow!!!
« on: April 15, 2007, 03:57:46 PM »
I just finished watching the SBK races at Valencia.  Race 2 made my jaw drop.  Such good racing... the entire race was a "highlight".  The last lap in race 2 was just superb with three lead changes.  It was also nice to see a Honda win after a Ducati took race 1.

Couldn't see the races. The TV channel that has the rights to broadcast the SBK races has the rights also for the Formula 1 car racing, and because of the strong following of the local hero Fernando Alonso, everytime SBK and F1 take place the same sunday, you know which one goes out....

Over here, TV signal is broadcasted via air, and we have about 4 national channels and a bunch of regional channels depending on where you live. Most of them are crap. From some years one the TV signal is broadcasted via TDT, that is, via antena but digitally coded, so with a decoder that costs 30-50 euro you can receive the same regular channels plus some dedicated channels that belong to the same public TV. In one of them, they broadcast the full SBK races, but in general, TV channels use the TDT to rerun their crappy comedies, so it is not a matter of paying 50 euros, is a matter of what kind of crap do they broadcast.

Since I have broadband I make my own TV: just download the movies, documentaries and series I like. I've already seen the full five seasons of "curb your enthusiasm", a few episodes of "Mind of the married man", and have about 100 episodes waiting to be seen from "Mythbusters", "Biker Build off", and "American chopper".

Over here, race broadcast is so crappy that they interrupt the races to broadcast advertising. Even when they leave a small frame in the screen playing the race, many times you will miss an overtaking or a fall. As soon as the winner crosses the line, they say goodbye and don't broadcast the lap of honour. Not even the warm-up. And I'm talking motoGP also. Some smartass in the public TV thought that it would be cool to convert the motoGP broadcast in "showbusiness", so for this season they hired to young, good-looking girls to do the paddock interviewing. Poor girls, they don't have a clue about races, racing history, mechanics. Not they are that gorgeus; the girls with the umbrellas are always hotter than them.

I agree, excellent race 2, Toseland snatched it, but I think one more lap and it would have been Biaggi! I watch on Eurosport, have to subscribe to sky for the privilege but I think worth it, specially as they cover all the MotoGP classes.

Crap, I missed the races Sunday.  I was attending a home show getting ideas for an expensive flooring project <insert cracking whip sound here>.  I think Speed replays them on Tuesdays, right?

Yep, NASCAR TV (OOPS,  I mean Speed) replays them on Tuesday, but not in primetime anymore.  This week is 1PM and 2PM in the afternoon, so set your vcr, tivo or whatever.  As Sparty mentions above, you definitely don't want to miss the 2nd race!
