POLL: ONE BIKE HAS TO GO - IS IT THE CB750 OR THE CB450 ?
« on: May 07, 2007, 03:27:48 PM »
As the topic states, one of my Honda's has to find a new home sooner than later  :-\
I am really torn on which one I want/need to sell.

(I tried to make a poll as other's do but for some reason it didnt work - so just reply with your opinion please  ;D)

CB750

I have had this bike the longest, is reliable as all hell, and have no issue taking it out on the tollway when I need to be in the city. I am kinda known for this bike, and has kinda become more of a part of me than any other car/bike I have owned before..

CB/CL450

Just got this bike finished, and am eager to ride/enjoy it. I am liking vertical twins more and more, and this bike screams BADASS all over it. This is the kinda bike I would be all over if I saw it at a show, which means I built it the right way ;D

The main thing the CB750 has going for it is that it is more rideable. The CB450 I wouldnt take out on the tollway if someone paied me. With how low that thing is, one good bump would be the end of both me and the bike. The CB750 isnt a 4X4 either, but it is a bigger bike overall and can take the bumps just fine. The CB/CB450 is killer, and if I keep it will get dual discs and allot more stuff done to it. If the CB750 sticks around it will get ridden just the way it is..

What to do - what to do....?

Choosing between those is like picking which eye has to go...

hard call.
That parallel twin looks awesome, but the 750 is real nice too...

IF it were me, I'd sell the parallel twin though.
And hate myself for it later... but if i had to pick...

Sorry that you have to make the choice....

The decision rests with which one will fulfill a) your transportation needs and b) your 'pride of ownership' needs.

At risk of creating unrest, if it was a decision I had no choice but to make I would keep the twin, on the basis of 'rarity' value.

I forgot that you posted this earlier, and I hoped that you figured it out so neither had to go. They are both rolling works of art that were obviously built by someone who has the love for what we do, not just a reason for transportation. If this were my situation, and I repeatedly exhausted all my options, I would have to let the 450 go. Dont know if it would make the situation easier or not if you tried to sell it to a friend or family member to kinda "keep it in the family". And then again I dont think I could roll up next to it at a light without feeling like hell. The 750 offers more usefullness as being a little taller, little faster, bigger road target, and should help you with that occasional need for speed so you wont have to abuse that new bike of yours. Ride on.............

Yeah, what have you got in each of them anyway, a couple hundred bucks?  Why not keep them both?

Thanks for all the advice guys , and please keep it coming...

I just got back from taking the 450 out for it's firs real ride since we got the charging system figured out. The bike is a blast stoplight to stoplight, and cruisin around the city. Going past bars with people looking to see what all that noise is, along with people on the sidewalks jumping when I downshift the bike is a good time  ;D I cant say it would be fun on anything more than a 1/2 hour ride or so, as the seat is hard as hell and the clip-on's tear up your wrist pretty bad. But, it is a badass bike that just looks mean standing still (and is quite fast to boot as well)..

The CB750 is a roadking compared to the CB750. That bike I could ride to Wisconsin for the day and not have any pain or worries what so ever doing it. Don't get me wrong, the CB750 is a killer bike which I love, but on the other hand the CB450 is a badass little scoot which I would stop in my tracks to look at if i were to see it at a show (and it wasn't mine ;D)..

I am kinda in need of some cash for some outstanding bills, and am getting pressured from the higher ups to sell one of the bikes. I am trying to hold them off the best I can but it looks like I am fighting a battle that I just cant win :-\

Personally, I like the looks of your 450 more and while I haven't heard the 750, that 450 sounds wicked too.  Only issue I have is that it is small, although you sound like you have issues with the rideablility.  Can that be changed?  Raise it up some?  Different shocks or springs?  Change the gearng?  Etc.  If not and you "HAVE" to lose one, then keep the 750 and do more to it to make it more you.  Can you do something similar or unique to the pipes of the 750 like you did the 450?  What else could you do to set it off since that seems to be what drives you?

However, I also agree with others that you should try to keep them both.  What's the most you have in one of them? How much could you get?  Whatever that amount of money is, is it really all that much that makes it really worth it?  If you sell one, where's the money going to go... into the other bike to make it more like the one you sold?  Keep both if you can, but we'll understand if you can't.   ;D

...and as Bill said, 'who are the higher ups' and why does that matter?

joe, from what you said, the 750 has more "potential" as far as what it can do for you..ie,going to wisconsin or any other road trip, the 450 seems to be more limited in what it can do for you.

I agree 150%, thus my dilemma.
After riding the CB450 last night I am even more at a loss to make a decision.
I am more "into" the CB450 now because I like how it has turned out, and I still have a boatload of other things I want to do/add to it to make it ever more killer than it is now (different tank/dual discs/etc...)
I am sure it could do a tollway trek if need be, but I still have to get some more seat time in it before I feel comfortable enough to venture onto the highway with it. The more I rode it last night the more I was surprised as to just how streetable it is, with being as low as it is...

This coming Saturday me and the rest of the Ton-Up Chicago guys are having a bar-b-q with the windy city rollers (roller derby tattooed girls in fishnets ;D), and I am gonna ride the CB450 to put some more miles on it. I think the more the CB450 proves itself as a reliable runner the more I am gonna lean to keeping it..

Not to get into my personal affairs but I kinda built up more than alittle credit card debt, and I would use the money i would get for one of these bikes and put it towards that. I know it wouldn't be much, but anything is better than nothing... Like I said I am doing everything I can to keep both bikes till atleast the winter hits, then I can figure out more of what I wanna do...

I looked at the "ton up chicago site"....really well done! I was impressed.

The CB750 seems to fit that group better??

Man, Proteal, that isn't the rock and the hard place; that's the hard place and the hard place. :-(  I love your black 450.  I even have the picture from the calendar still up.  But I'm a function over form guy.  I would ask myself the question of whether I'd be happy with an only bike that I couldn't ride that much.  Besides, your 750 is sweet.  Boatdickson's got a good idea about trying to keep it in the family, and if I couldn't do that, I'd still be picky about the buyer.  You've put heart into that bike.

well, there's also the consideration that if one is so hard to ride, it may also be hard to sell, despite how it looks.

Heres a possibility.......I dont want to offer this as to dig deeper into personal things, but it worked for me. Ever heard of CCCS, Consumer credit counseling service? Any search engine would find them. If your resources are being eaten up with all the BS side of credit debt; late payments, over limit charges, and stuff like that, get ahold of one of the people at this place. They act as an in-between for you and your creditors. They work deals with the creditors to get finance charges stopped while you are making payments in good standing to the CCCS company and sometimes get a lower payoff amount than you originally had. The coolest part I thought was making 1 payment to the CC place once a month and they distribute it out to all the people you owe. Also youll get a schedule based on your payments when it will all be paid off. That way youll stop carrying around that 'When am I ever gonna get this sh*t paid off ' feeling........Just an idear

I don't need counseling services (I ain't that deep in debt ;D)..
I just went alittle overboard on some credit cards and now I need to pay them off.

Believe me guys, I don't want to sell either bike, and I am trying my hardest to figure out a way to keep them both. I am just about done getting my CB750 "freshened up", and for the most part the CB450 is done and rideable. I might just park them both and focus on getting my bills paid (as this summer is pretty much shot with those damn bugs that are coming)..

Who knows... :-\

I know away to make money and get the bike out of your hair.  Just rent it to me for the summer so I can look cool driving down Logan Blvd and tell all the chicks about how I worked hard rebuilding the bike. ;D

I am sure we could workout some sorta "rental" for the summer. Just have to type something up so if you dump the thing you have to pay me a pre-determined amount to cover the cost and emotional value  ;D

I rode the CB/CL450 last night to the monthly Ton-Up Chicago meeting and had a blast. The more I ride the #$%* the more I am getting used to it, how to ride it, and everything else that comes with some good seat time. A decision still needs to be made, and I am trying to put it off as long as possible..

No no no!  With gas priced projected to skyrocket, what you need to sell is the car.  It can't possibly get the milage that either bike gets.  I'd like to see a pic of the car.  I'll bet it doesn't show the love that the bikes obviously get.

Well, as everyone knows the CB750 is long gone.
I replaced it with a 2007 Ducati Monster S2R1K --->

So now I have the Ducati, the CB450, and the Bel-Air..
