350F Coils and Cylinders Routing
« on: October 23, 2025, 12:05:11 PM »
I've rounded the far turn and am coming down the home stretch working on my '72 350 Four, but I want to make sure about the coil/spark wires...coil #1 (on the left) goes to cylinders 1 and 4, and coil # 2 goes to cylinders 2 and 3, yes...? It's just like the CB500 and 550...?

...and the right coil goes to 1 and 4, right...? Will it make a difference if I run #1 to 1 and 4, and coil#2 to 2/3..?  It shouldn't, right? It's a wasted spark system, correct? I figure the left coil runs 1 and 4, and the right coil runs 2/3...same difference, isn't it?

As long as its wired correctly. And the HT leads reach the plugs.

No, actually not, they are TEC coils; I was psyched to see I had spark on all four - kinda weak, but it's there. Unfortunately, the PO chopped the wires off a little short, so I'm adding some NGK extensions onto them and see what I get. He had them going every which way, and I found three different spark plugs in the holes! Now they're all D8EA's.

When this thing is up and purring I think it would be a good idea to ride by his house and swear at him loudly.

Ha! ;D  Yeah, really...I was amazed at the different plugs! It actually hasn't been that bad of a rebuild; the only real thing I'm lacking is a proper exhaust for it. I tried putting on a set of CB500 4 into 2 side pipes, but either they don't fit or I haven't messed with them enough yet; but in any case, I only have three headers anyway.

This one came as a true basket case, in a bunch of totes I brought home as well as some unknown Kawasaki parts. I've been stitching it together as kind of a practice dry run for the other complete CB350F I have waiting in the wings, but that one is locked up and will need some serious surgery to bring back, including two snapped-off plugs in the head! Yeah, that sucked...but I've had that problem before, it shouldn't be too hard to remedy.  Here's a pic of the current bike when I brought it home, and after I had everything cleaned and repainted - huh; dated last October 20th, as a matter of fact!

Can't see the photos as an attachment for some reason...

500 pipes won't work, different diameter and shape. There are a few new options, like Delkevic or Mac (the former much better than the latter). Used sets of aftermarket pipes pop up. The 400F pipes work but you've got to change out pegs and brake lever. I bought a set of Busso 4-4 pipes that I am saving for a project but they were pricey, and not worth the months of hassle and BS from the company (and I think the company went under, unsurprisingly).
