cylinder fins cleaning
« on: November 08, 2025, 07:46:05 PM »
I want to clean the cylinder fins on the bike while the motor is in the bike. Besides the obvious spark plug, intake, and exhaust holes - are there any other places or holes on that part of the motor where cleaner could get into the motor? Or can I spray freely into the fins to clean. Can't really see where some of the passages go. Thanks

As long as the motor is all together there are no other places to worry about than those 3 places.

I use solvent and rinse with non chlorinated brake cleaner.

I wonder... is there anything against brake cleaner?

I once used it on a CB125 Honda single (leaking gasket at the top), and it took the paint off the crankcases. I don't think it was Honda's paint, though, as the engine had been previously rebuilt by someone else.

...then it also got repainted...

Couple things I use...wd40...really soak it and then hose it off.  Also, S100 all over bike cleaner is amazing, but expensive.  Gunk brand engine degreaser really works great but can darken  bare aluminum color.
If it works good, it looks good...
