Working on KONI 76P-1413
« on: November 13, 2025, 12:40:34 PM »
Picked these up a while back and thought I’d have a closer look today. 14.5” centre to centre on the mounting points. The top bushing is 16mm bore.

I use a 1” load strap to pull the spring down and slip out the top alloy retaining collar and the large, shaped steel washer. What really helps is the scrap alloy bushing slipped onto the bottom locating bolt. This prevents the strap from jamming and allows it to pull down evenly.

Here's the bushing I use to stop the strap jamming.

Before removing the top mounting eye, I fully collapsed the shaft and engaged the internal adjuster. These were set at full soft (counter clockwise). They have about 2.25 turns of rebound adjustment (clockwise to full hard). At full hard, they’re almost impossible to extend! I set them both to mid point.

These have absolutely no signs of any leakage, and show very little wear. Shafts are perfect and the paint on the springs looks like new. Polished one up and used the strap to reassemble. Hint: stack all the washers and bump stop on, then lock the top eye in place BEFORE compressing the spring and installing the top steel washer and alloy spring perch. I forgot and it’s impossible to really pull up on the jam nut with the spring in the way….

Took it apart and did it right.

One done, one to go.  Old alloy Koni are my favourite. They sure look good!

I think these fit later cb750, cb900, or twin shock CBX 1000….. Not sure what I am going to do with them, unless they fit the ‘75 GL1000.
