Ungo Box Removal
« on: December 31, 2025, 12:44:10 PM »
1978 CB750F. I have the unfortunate distinction of having purchased my bike with an Ungo Box installed by p o. You may recall these were marketed by Clarion in the late 70's/early 80's as cutting edge tech being the first security system with a remote on/off. I  think every Porsche 911 of that era  had one. In any case, I am wanting to remove this as I think it is adversely affecting my charging system. There are 8 wires out of this contraption. If unplugged, the bike becomes a boat anchor. Anyone ever done this previously with sage advice? Thanks for any/all responses.

The "box" will have a relay or some such that cuts power to the ign switch unless turned on.
What you will have to do is trace every wire from the box to the loom and then repair the loom wires to original diagram spec.
Usual problem with alarm aftermarket is all wires are one colour with identity tags at the end which you cut off when you wire it in

Then see if you can get a wiring diagram on line

The stock wiring diagram may look like a plate of noodles but it is actually pretty simple, at least in comparison to a new bike with all the computer stuff.
You have to get a wiring diagram, the original Honda one is best and should be findable online. The others, like colored or whatever, all simplify some things or just skip them.
See what harness wire color each ungo wire connects to. If there are two the same, they just get spliced together. Otherwise check on the diagram what the wire does. The box is going to have a power and ground wire, maybe a switched power and a direct battery power also.
