What’s your Favourite Model?
« on: January 12, 2026, 02:19:46 PM »
Something SeanBarney said in another post got me thinking on this. I’ve owned, restored, and ridden every year of SOHC cb750K, except ‘75. I filled that gap with a lovely 1975 cb750F. Most recently I “over restored” a pair of 1970 K0s and a ‘69 “Sandcast”. They are gorgeous bikes and I do admire them. My Excell Black ‘78, with Lester wheels, looked good too. We covered a lot of miles.

But……. My all time favourite is still my 1971 cb750K1. The extra red paint on the fork ears and headlamp looks great. The annoying 1-4 throttle cable of the earlier bikes is gone and the instruments are improved by their glass lenses and metal bodies. The HM300 pipes look and sound raucous, especially on start up. To me, it’s a winner!

Agreed! the 1971 K1 is bereft of the little dashboard of lights that came in '72 and the 300 pipes sound better than any that came after.Painted headlight ears as opposed to chrome and body colored headlight bucket were never seen again

Had 3 over the years , 2 F2`s and a 400 four . Got the 400 when they came out in australia in the 70`s . Then got the first F2 in the late 70`s . Had a very bad run with it with valve guides going within 3 mths . Then the bike shop wrecked the motor due to their negligence . Now I have just restored another F2 , so havent had enough time with it to say if I like it yet or not . Got to say the 400 was great , reliable , never failed and was fun to ride up untill the point that my friends brother let me ride his F1 750 . But till then I would say the 400 four was my best  ;D

Yep, it is the 750 K1 here as well. Both sporting HM300s and I'm working on the 3rd one, same color too.

“Three red” sounds good!

For me, it is a toss-up between these two =

Those look great! I hope my first attempt at a restoration looks that good. I just passed on a red K0 a couple weeks ago, thought I better finish my current project. I really didn't plan on a matched trio set, just sort happened.

Greg, I'd venture the one in the first pic is far less maintenance and cost. ;) 8)

And more reliable? Looks like the cb750K1 gets the most votes?

Another K1 vote here, for me it is the high point of the series, still has the power without the additional "improvements".

For the fear of being banned, I'd have to say my fav is my '75 Z1 900.

The classic style, long stance and muscular presence is legendary not to mention the power and sound of the DOHC motor!

Don't get me wrong, I love my [four] Hondas, but the Z1 is something truly special.

Even though I have only ridden one of them, I have no doubt you are correct. ;)

Completely understandable.

I would've liked a test ride on the lower model, but probably when it was newer.

I seem to be a fan of the K0 750's. That said, I missed my KZ1000 as soon as it was gone then the GS1100E found me, is a non-Honda handful of go.

I got my start on the triples of the 70's then graduated to the Z's & early 2 valve GS's, they're both really great bikes. My last kawasaki of this era was a 78 Z1r with a chrome kerker, bought used in '81. Sold it during the great divorce (1st and only) of '88.  Really miss that bike. Compared to today's prices, it sold for pennies on the dollar.

Mine would be the K1 bought new in  September 1971. The last red one in the warehouse. I foolishly sold it but got it back a short a short later. All as I bought it except for the right headlight bracket and tires.
I like all the SOHC's the K1 tops the list.

I also have two Triples, an H1 & H2. Have always been a fan of Kawasaki since I bought my first "big bike", a '78  KZ1000 LTD back in the early 80's.  Wow...45 years ago!

It's not a bike but it's now garage porn in my garage. I got this poster some time ago and just got it framed. After my garage tidy up and paint I wanted to adorn the walls with something that belongs there right across from where the K3 750 sits.

since my first cb 750 was a 72 k-2 i bought in 73 .  put a 836 kit, yoshi cam & hooker 4into 1 ( and being a 18 yr old dumb ass threw the mint set of 341's into the dumpster )   had that bike in over 15 states and it always ran like a swiss watch .  had to sell it when i moved to glenwood springs , co to attend school .  i do love my 76 k-6 but miss the k-2

Of all the bikes we have my favorite is the 77' KZ 1000 LTD. The first time I rode it I was one with the bike and knew it was my favorite right away. My uncle bought it in 78' and I had to wait almost 45 years to get it. Then I spent 6 months resurrecting it. It was totally worth it. 8)
