front wheel spacing problem
« on: February 08, 2026, 03:29:38 PM »
I attached some pics. 1972 CB750K2. I removed the forks to clean them up, etc. Disassembled the hub and disk, etc. Upon reinstalling the front wheel, I have a large gap where the fork should ride on the axle on the right side. Took the wheel off and tried again - no luck. I don't think anything is bent cuz it was fine before I took it apart. One of the pics shows the caliper, and the inner pad seems out too far? I did not mess with that, but isn't that one stationary anyway? Could use some help. I am stumped. 5 pics attached. Thanks

Do you have the spacer that goes between the axle nut and the bearing installed?
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Scott - yes, it's in. I just loosened the triple tree clamps and twisted the forks a bit, and it seems like that may be the fix. Maybe they are a bit bent.

Bent forks would have been my next guess.

Is there a proper sequence to tightening up the fork clamps? Or unusual torque settings? I do have the D washers in the upper clamps
