mystery washer at oil fitting
« on: February 22, 2026, 05:17:29 PM »
1972 CB 750K2. I was cleaning the 2 main braided oil lines in a container, and noticed what looks like an aluminum crush washer at the bottom of the container I was cleaning them in. The washer does fit into the top of one of the fittings to the oil tank, but I don't know for sure if it goes there. I can't tell from the schematic. It doesn't fit in the top fitting of the other, smaller oil line. Do either of these lines get a washer inside the fitting for the connection to the oil tank? Thanks

Thanks Scott - so both get washers on top? I assume one is #26 in the schematic, but not the other one. Seems like the other is for the drain plug. Unless there is only one. Supply and return being different.  ???

It looks like the other washer is #20, which is the same part as #25 for the actual tank drain plug. It may be stuck in the fitting?

I compared the schematic to the oil tank, and it looks like #20 is directed at the drain plug, not the oil connection in back of the tank?

It would make sense if the forward hose (B), which is the return hose - didn't have a crush washer as it wouldn't do any good? That would be the one I don't have. I dunno
If it is required at both hoses, it turns out a 2002 XR250 drain bolt crush washer is the same part as #20, so I would have one.

I think both hoses have washers where they connect to the tank. Look closely because they can get compressed enough (if they don’t fall out!) to look like they are part of the fitting. The drain plug gets one too. The hose ends at the crankcase use only “0” rings.
