New hobby/ hopefully an income source
« on: March 14, 2026, 06:56:06 AM »
I started making metal sculptures. Mostly it is therapeutic but I also hope to sell some pieces locally.  My family could use the money and maybe raise a few dollars for the chopper build.

Thank you sir, I have another flower ready to go. That being said shipping to the states from Canada will be troublesome. I'm sure we can figure something out if you really wanted a piece. Again, thank you so much. Here is the new piece.

Nice work. Sometimes it's nice to focus on something different for a while. A while back a couple of friends and I made clocks from a bunch of brake rotors. We sold a few and gave away some.

How about some shine?

That is a great idea sir. That being said I can't get $30 for them like they are now. I would have to charge more for them plated. I just don't know if it would add enough value plated to cover time, effort and material cost.

I'm not sure either.

Will you be expecting much tourism out your way with Maine being on this side of the border and all?

We get a bit of tourists but the opportunity to get a piece in front of them is difficult.  Any of the shops that might take it on in the tourist section want it for nothing and sell it for more than I can ever hope to get for it

Here is a pic of the copper flowers that I make. My newer ones have a red chrome tint paint and I stopped soldering them, it's all press fit onto the stems now. I made a set of pliers with curved jaws to help form the petals.
A store owner recently asked about them. I may take one in for them to see.

Thanks, honestly, I printed the petal pattern off the internet and my son in law gave me the copper from his plumbing shop scrap bin. The stems are tubing from Lowes. The assembly evolved from soldering it together to punching the holes with an awl and crimping the stem. I mark the leaves with a chisel to make the texture.
Some guys make them with pop cans so it can be done cheaply.

Motorcycle sprockets for the supports. Spark plugs for the hangers. Fun little shelf/ coat hangers. Cedar for the shelf plank.

Showed this picture to my buddy who is a fabricator and he bought it sight unseen.

Humbled to say the least that a man of his skills appreciated my work.

Have enough materials lined up to make a few of these. Having fun and is very therapeutic.

Very clever!  Would look even better with salvage wood as the shelf

Actually that is in the works. My Brother is a drum maker and has a lot of scrap woods he said I could have access to from his stock.

Will have to see what he has there I can make work.
