Valve adj after head removal
« on: May 07, 2007, 07:43:03 PM »
Had heli coils put in the #2 & 3 cylinders.  Finishing everything up, but need help with valve adjustments.

I have the cam key at the 12 o'clock position and the timing set at T1.4.  Which cylinder do I adj. the valves on?  The intake lobe for #1 is pointed towards the intake and is rotating up, while #4 is pointing to the exhaust and is rotating down.

Good riding weather is back in the Pacific NW. :)

Check to see which tappets are loose.  Should be either 1 intake and exhuast, or 4 intake and exhaust.  Then adjust the loose ones to the clearences specified in the manual.  Rotate the crank 180, and do the opposite of what you just did.  Rotate it again to T 2.3 and repeat.

They're all loose per the instructions in Clymer's for removing the heads.

It's the one that the rocker is touching the base of the cam and not the lobe.

what sam said,if these things are like cars, just put the rocker on the cam basecircle and adjust that valve.

If you look close the two lobes on one cyl will be pointing downwards (towards the head gasket)--adjust these. The other cyl will have the lobes pointing upwards so the valves would be "On the Rock"
