4-into-1 headers
« on: May 14, 2007, 05:50:04 PM »
Does anyone know what year 4-into-1 headers will fit my '71 CB750?  I am looking at a set from a '74, but don't know if they will bolt up.  Any experience on this subject?

They will work just fine. You may have to remove the spigots on your head to use the later style mounting system though.

I am kinda new to this.  By spigots, do you mean the adapter looking thingys that are between the header and the head?

Yes. That's exactly what I mean. The earlier bikes had those and the later bikes used a different mounting system.

If I go that route will I still be able to use the finned cooling rings (or whatever they are called)?  I am guessing not, since they won't be able to fit over the flange...?

It really depends on the headers you buy. Some have their own mounting flanges, others use the later stock style mount with the split collars and they finned holders that you referred to.

Thanks tmht.  As I said, I am new to this and still trying to figure out how to make it all work and come out the way I envision it.  The disassembly has already started, so I'm trying to get all the pieces  together so I can "mock it up" before I send parts out for powder coating and chrome.

Take as  many pictures as possible during disassembly! There are two reasons for this, first, so you can post them here to share your progress, but more importantly, to use as a reference during reassembly. You have no idea how useful those photos will become.

I am taking pictures as I go.  I'm in the process of putting together a simple website with fotos and writeups.  I will also be selling a lot of the stock parts on the site as I remove them to help pay for the cafe stuff.  Stay tuned...  ;)
