Almost bought a $13,000 oil filter
« on: May 17, 2007, 06:03:47 AM »
Went to the local Honda/Ducati dealer for a few odds and ends and came the closest I ever have to buying a new motorcycle on the spot.  I've never really seen a new bike and thought "I NEED that" until now.  I have the urge for an Italian twin and really thought the new Moto Guzzi Griso was it.  After seeing both in the flesh there's absolutely no contest.  Ordinarily, I'd think people are crazy to pay this much for a motorcycle, but this thing just speaks to me.  It says...do my kids really NEED a college fund?

Also if you're ever in the showroom at Lunsford's Honda, look up...there's some cool stuff up there...kind of like the Champange Room in a strip club.

But in 20 years time will you look the same way at a 'mass produced' Ducati the way you look at a sohc.....?

Those Ducati's are beaut's.  If there was one in my garage I would still love her in twenty years.

Very cool.

I've always loved the RC30... and for some reason I think I may have to own one someday.  Probably no time like the present as they will probably only go up in price.  :'(

Our sohc bikes were mass produced in quantites Ducati can only dream about, but they're a cool timeless design.  I think it's the combination of styling and smack-you-in-the-chin performance on that 1000S hits a sweet spot for me.  It's not too overdone.  I'd love to see a bevel drive instead of those cam belts, but you make certain concessions for modern performance and service intervals.

The retro styling is kind of a fad right now, but Ducati has done it better than others.  In 20 years, we might look at that bike and say "that's when everybody was doing retro designs", but that's not really a bad thing.  I don't really see 'retro' in it...I just see a cool motorcycle.

I hope they sell this thing fast as I pass this dealership every day.  I really hope Ducati sells enough of them that I can find a nice used example for a few thousand less in a couple of years.  Preferably with some nice Termi pipes.

Ever since the Ducati Sport Classics came out I've said if I ever buy a new bike, it will be one of those!  There are hardly any newer bikes that get my blood running just by looking at them, and the Ducati is the only one I could even think about ever affording.

And yes, if I bought one, I would love it even more twenty years from now! ;D

I fell in love with the SportClassic when it first came out as well.  It was on display with a beautifully restored 750SS with the light green frame in the same color scheme.  I used to lust over those old Ducs, but this new one really got me going.

I thought the sport1000 were mono-shock?  maybe only the newer versions?
They have a sweet NCR race version on the cover of cycle world that has every part made of Mg and Ti.
But I'd be happy with one like this.

Had something similar happen in a Triumph dealer.  Went in to order a new riding jacket, came THIS close to a new Triumph.

If I get deployed again, (which might happen by the end of the year), I'm considering getting a new Triumph as a everyday beater upon my return.  Either a Bonneville T100 with lots of factory options, or a Scrambler, again with lots of factory options.

there is nothing better than coming home and spending the money you saved on a deployment.

They give you the option of the "Monoposto" and "Biposto".  With that kind of styling, I prefer the biposto.

The Sport Classics are pretty cool. When I was working at Salem Honda, BMW, Ducati, I got to service ride one. It's got the old school feel with the new school technology. One FUN scoot!  ;D
