Dumped it
« on: May 23, 2007, 09:50:35 AM »
Laid the bike down last night at about 7PM.  Was making a right turn at about 25mph (maybe less?) and was almost through it when the front tire caught some gravel.  Went down, picked it back up and rode it home w/ no rear brake as  that was bent inwards from the fall.

I'm ok, my GF is ok, and the 550 is ok.  My GF had a small scrape on her right hand and a bruised right knee.  I've got a bruised, burned and possibly broken right big toe (if you have riding boots, regardless of how uncomfortable they'll be later, wear them, I should have), a large scrape on my right knee (I need some riding pants....jeans turn into swiss cheese), some road rash on my stomach (the leather coat rode up by the angle) and a stiff and sore right shoulder.  The 550 has minimal to no damage.  It lost its right mirror, bent the brake pedal inwards and scuffed both right side turn signals.  Thats it.

I thank my GF for making wear my leather coat, as I could have been much worse off had I not.  My coat was blue and black, on the right arm it is now tan.  Also, any kind of gloves will save you from minor damage.  A $7 leather palmed set of mechanics gloves saved my right hand from being ruined.  Ride safe out there, and wear all your gear if you have it.  As for me, I'm fixing the brake pedal and going out later, you fall off the horse, mechanical or otherwise, you suck it up and get back on.

Sorry to hear about your little mishap, but sounds like it could have been a lot worse.

Thanks for sharing your experience, rather than worry about your pride.  Hopefully we can all learn something from it or at least help us remember that things can and will happen.

Sorry to read about that. Thanks for being up front about the "should have" with regard to the gear you were wearing. I wish riders would really appreciate that denim is abraded through in no distance, even at slow speeds.

Sorry to read about that. Thanks for being up front about the "should have" with regard to the gear you were wearing. I wish riders would really appreciate that denim is abraded through in no distance, even at slow speeds.

BUT, denim full length jeans are better than shorts and flip flops like some squid wear.
also, i'd rather be wearing jean material than anything aside from leather.  i've never purchased riding pants but, won't argue that i need to.  in the meantime... i wear jeans which are sometimes supplemented w/ motorcross knee and shin guards underneath.  (usually, on long trips)

my one major wreck i didn't slide much because mr. dumbass in his car abruptly put a halt to that but, the sliding that i did do my jeans took the brunt of.  i still wear them to this day and the other holes are far worse than the wreck damage.

my opinion is that armor is the deciding factor on body damage... had i had knee armor when i broadsided mr dumbass at 50+mph maybe i wouldn't walk w/ a limp. ----> had i not been a kid and been cornered by his insurance company in my own house by myself... perhaps i would have not settled out of court and be a rich man now too.

I have some Draggin Jeans I like, somewhere between just jeans and leather I guess. I like them, but if I had it to do over I might try Sliders. They have additional Kevlar fabric in the butt region.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

I just got some Bohn Armor Pants to wear under my jeans.

Not every time, but they're pretty damn snazzy underoos.
