Intro & Bronze Swingarm Bushing ?
« on: April 06, 2005, 10:54:05 AM »
Hey all -

Question first, intro in a minute. I completely understand that this is the SOHC4 board, but I know there is a wealth of old Honda info here. My roommate (I am a college student) has a 1972 CB450 DOHC. He wants to replace the swingarm bushings when we blast and powdercoat his frame. Does anyone know a good source for these? CB450 in particular or Honda in general? Maybe the CB450 uses the same ones as a CB500 or something?

Intro

I've been on the board for a couple of years as Mborden. I didn't realize that with the new site that I would lose the login and the number of previous posts. Oh well. I've previously owned a very ratty CB350/4. That was the bike I learned on. Fun bike, but ultimately required more work than what I could handle at the time. I moved up (at least displacement wise, if not in character) to a 1973 CB500K which is still my main bike. Its been given a lot of attention, and its currently a pretty decent looking cafe racer. I rebuilt the engine 3 years ago, Ive put on several thousand miles, and its never given me a moment of trouble (probably right up until I wrote that).

Over the last 6 months, I have been doing a ground up rebuild of a 1975 Suzuki GT550. Its a 2-stroke triple, hence the new username (If it makes you guys happier, I am SOHC4 on the Suzuki board). Where the Honda was a pretty faithful refurbishment with some period-correct modifications, the Suzuki has been stripped to the bare essentials. Its set up as a cafe/streetfighter, very light (for a GT550 anyway), clip-ons, chambers, that sort of thing. Its sort of my alter ego bike, since its loud and obnoxious and smokey and I generally plan to bother people with it. I think only hard-core old bike fans will really like it. It fell into my lap for $66, so I had to do *something* with it. Ill post a link when I get final pics.

Either Kibblewhite or M3 Racing should have those bushings. In fact M3 probably gets them from Kibblewhite if he carries them.

Matt,

Glenn Stauffer, board moderator, is still working on getting the previous Greenspun posts and threads moved to this server. It may take some time though.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Update:

After some searching, he ended up getting bushings and tapered steering bearings from www.partsnmore.com. They had the parts in stock, and the collective price was $35 cheaper than Old Bike Barn. The only complaint was that Parts N More doesn't have a telephone number listed, so communication is a minor hassle.
