Well, I went shopping again
« on: May 30, 2007, 02:50:16 AM »
Last night I made another trip out to see the guy I bought the CB450 and XR100 from earlier. He is in the garage cleaning mood and fortunately I am around to help!

For $100 I bought:

2 motocross bikes (a Yamaha and a Suzuki, both needing major attention)

a 1971 Suzuki TM125 motocross frame, engine block and transmission.

a Yamaha XS650 (unrunning, looking like a boat anchor, but maybe there are possibilities?)

a Yamaha 100 cc dirt bike (another non running bike, missing a seat and tank)

Around 25 gently used motocross tires. (he had been a racer, and usually ran his tires for 1 or 2 heats at the most, then they would go into his garage)

4 aluminum dirt bike racing wheels (front and rear)

Around 10 pairs of motocross racing handlebars, none bent.

Assorted bike hardware (sprockets, new brake pads, rotors, brake discs; too much to list)

Two sets of chest protectors, other racing gear.

It is no coincidence that I waited until my wife was out of town for the week on business before I did this deal! Even though she knew I was about to go back out there, I don't think that she had any idea how much stuff I was bringing back.

My poor shed is going to be overwhelmed very soon.

I can't believe how cheap some people unload stuff for. I only wish that there was no bottom to this well!

It like going to a "Rich" mans yard sale and a "Poor" mans yard sale.  One is usually to get rid of stuff, the other to make some money.  When I yard sale, I want to get rid of the stuff ;D

           Hey Greg,

My wife didn't say much when I brought a few "Project Bikes" home. Then I started bringing some every few days for a bit. After awhile, (and several "Project Bikes" later) she started voicing her opinion. ::) She thought I backed off. ;D ::) Well, I just became more innovative you might say. You would be surprised what you can put in a 93' Dodge Grand Caravan, and close the doors (w/o pulling any seats out) I've hauled a CB500K (mostly frame and motor), 3 Yamaha DT175 (79-81), a Yamaha MX400B, 81' Yamaha SR500, 85' Yamaha TY350 and several others. I've managed to sell a few and traded the 93' Minivan off since then. The guys , at the small bike salvage (including the owner) were really surprised at first, about how I could partially disassemble and pack a bike into the back of that minivan. Then, after a while, they'd come out to watch and see how I was going to put the next one in there. ;D LOL with getting that garage in order Greg.

                                                Later on, Bill :) ;)

I moved one of my 750's minus the engine, in the trunk of our toyota avalon.
I farted and made my son cry.

Good one! ;) Sounds like this would make a good thread! I moved a 71 Suzuki TS125 in a VW "The Thing". ::)

One day my Honda SL175 siezed up on the side of the highway.
It was hot out, and some guy in a pristine convertable Corvair
offered to give me a ride to my destination. We put the bike in
the back seat! As the pipes were melting the seats I mentioned it
to him.
He says, "Not a problem. I am dropping off the car. I just got a divorce and the judge gave
my wife the car.  ;D
peace,
michel
