best way to lower rear of 1980 cb650

is there a way to lower the stock shocks or do i have to buy short shocks.....or any other ideas..

Is this for aesthetics or to help you reach the ground more easily? If the latter I would leave the suspension set up as it is and explore getting the seat foam modified with less padding.

lowering blocks.  A search of the site will bring up info.   smaller rear tire.

Just installed lowering blocks purchased on E-bay for $23 including shipping.  Looks great, feet touch the ground and I didn't have any poor handling as the result.  I did have to ream the inside of the bushing that was supplied for the bolt to fit through it however.

If you have origional(or heavily worn aftermarket ones), mabey a set of shorter shocks would work, and give you better shocks in the process.

Personally, I do not like the thought of lowering blocks as it tends to offset the position the shocks mount on the rear swingarm.
It probably doesn't make that much difference in handling, or reliability.(dunno, never tried them)
Shock lowering blocks just seem the cheap/easy way to acheiving what a new 1" or 2" shorter set of shocks will give you.
