Standard Chain Lubricant: Your Recommendation?

What do you guys recommend as a lubricant for a standard (non o-ring) chain on a '75 400F?

If possible, I'd like to get something I can pick up locally (Wal-Mart, autoparts store, etc.)...

I like PJ1 Black Label.  It drys as a waxy lubricant rather than being all greasy and seems to protect from moisture well.  Run your bike till your chain is good and warm then douse it with Diesel fuel to get the crud off.  You  may want to use a non metal brush as well.  Dry it off then hose it down with the PJ1 while the chain is still warm so it penetrates better.  Let it dry and youre set!  Later.

Well, given that everyone on here must use chain lubricant (does everyone on here run o-ring chains?), I was hoping for a better response...oh well.

I'm using PJ1 also, and it behaves just as described. I don't know if your 400 has the auto chain oiler, but if it does, you should close it off or you will defeat some of the chain lubes better qualities.

I have used both Motul and Castrol with no problems.
It always pays to lube the chain when it is hot and try not to ride again that day. Very little throw off from either product.
All of my 750's have o-ring chains

Some of these bikes can not accomodate O-ring chains because of the additional width of the chain - it rubs.
there are a few posts about this.
I use "Motorycle Chain Lube" I have no idea what brand it is (its good, I know because of the price and the nice picture on the can)
They are based on a waxy type lube for good adhesion and are usually spray on. This stops it all flinging off as you ride.
Available in most good auto stores near you.

I use a product called 'Linklyfe' made by Filtrate Oils. It is a solid form and comes in a tin about 9" diameter. Process is, clean the chain, coil it and rest it on top of the Linklyfe. Warm the tin and the solid melts. Let the chain soak for two or three minutes and then hang it over the tin to drain back. I have found this to give very good chain life.

I like the Honda HP Chain Lube. It comes in a large red can and now comes in a little can which is convenient to take with you on long trips. It it used with standard and o-ring chains. It contains moly and teflon and makes a dry coating on the chain that won't fling off.

I use LPS#3.  They do make other sprays and weights too.
