Supertrapp Exhausts?
« on: July 01, 2005, 05:12:07 AM »
Hi.  I have a '75 CB400F.  I bought the bike with the original header mated to a MAC (I think) slip on muffler.  This thing weighs a ton, plus I've made some other modifications that require a smaller exhaust.  I'm looking for a smaller, lighter alternative that would mate up to the stock header.

I've seen the Supertrapp E.A.R. series on eBay alot.  It's supposed to be relatively quiet compared to their "race" exhausts.  They have the right size inlet and are very small and light.  I'd prefer not to rejet, as the bike runs pretty well right now.  I like the fact that you can tune in the backpressure by adding/removing disks -- hopefully I can find the right setup with my current jetting.

Just wondering if anyone has used these before.  I know they're designed more for four stroke singles (dirt bikes) but I like the idea of a small can that I can tuck in close to the bike.  Is there anything wrong with using this type of muffler on a four cylinder bike?  Are there any better alternatives?

Thanks

I'm using a Supertrapp, sans the bafflle disks, on my much modified 350F 425cc bike.  Quiet enough for around town in this land of open exhaust H-D monsters, but goes from a rasp to howl to shreik as the RPM builds to 11,000.  Very uncivilized, but then, so am I.
Cheers, Psycle Don.

I like the supertrapp. There's no reason not to use one on a four. You can tune the backpressure (to some extent) by adding or removing discs. Plus, it's a proper government approved spark arrestor so you can go off-road without fear of starting a brush fire.
