MC Reports
« on: July 02, 2007, 10:18:46 AM »
Anyone dealt with this outfit?

http://www.mcreports.com/

I've been working on updating the website (coming soon in wiki form...) and wanted to fill out the article list for each bike model.  To do this, I need to get good quality reprints or originals, scan them, and pass them through a character reader to get the text online.  Their article 'books' are about $15-$20 per bike model which isn't bad if the articles are of high quality.  Before I order for every one of the SOHC/4 models, I'm hoping to get some confirmation of the quality.

I haven't seen any of their product but would their download service or CD make things easier for you? Perhaps you can get a sample from them if you explain what you're intending to do?

I purchased the complete package for the CB350F.  What I got was a password that allowed me to download the PDF files.  The images were very difficult to read because of poor contrast.  I have since deleted the files from my computer because, in my opinion, it was low quality and not worth the price I paid for it.  You wouldn't be able to post it on this forum anyway, because of copyright restrictions.  What follows is the e-mail they sent me when I purchased the report:

The link for the report is below. When you click on the link your browser, and your 'Reader' software will open. When the file is fully open, you should save to your hard drive by clicking on the disk link on the toolbar.

This PDF will only remain at the link below for a few days.

Please note that this report and all its contents are copyrighted and are for your individual use only. None of the content may be re-distributed in any way. All articles are 'watermarked' and contain security identifiers for protection.

Thanks again for your order, and we hope you enjoy the articles!

Thanks.  Sounds like I'm better off shopping ebay for copies of the originals.

Did you check with Motobunny if she can help with that?

I have MC reports, btw, for three of our bikes.  I like them.

Did you get the PDF's or the printed copies?  If the printed copies, are they clear, sharp prints?

Which ones do you have?

Sorry - a bit tardy to reply on this post but I thought I would chime in. . .

We have a TON of older motorcycle magazines (Cycle, Cycle World, Motor Cyclist, etc etc.) and if you are looking for a magazine or even just the scan, I may be able to help.

I have an older slow scanner - its takes a while but does a pretty good job - but I will do what I can. I also can 'assemble' the scans into .pdf format for convenience (such as the .pdfs I have posted of all SOHC Honda stuff I can find)

I hope to eventually purchase an actual 'book scanner' to expedite the process, as we just have sooooo many neat things come and go through our business. (auto/motorcycle/construction equipment manuals and literature on eBay (our site is http://yourshopmanual.com but we are just selling through eBay at this time)

Right now I even have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to check out and scan a bunch of motorcycle magazines from the 30s-50s!!!!  tooooo cool.

So, let me know if there any magazines you are looking for and I will check.  ;D

Hey Glenn,

I bought the direct downloads.  I have them for Yamaha SR500, Triumph Trident, and the Honda CB750 SOHC.  The quality is pretty good, and I've been happy with them.  Some good reading there.

I have a list of all of the articles which I've put online in the various bike sections.

CB750
CB400F
CB350F

I do not have a list of available articles for the CB650, 500, and 550 models, so I have no idea what I'm missing.

If you have the original magazines with articles covering these bikes, I'm certainly willing to talk about purchasing the entire set.  If you aren't selling the magazines but can provide scans, what seems to work best is a jpg or tiff color scan at 300 to 600 dpi.  Though it is nice to provide a download of the article in the original format, pdf's don't work well since I've yet to find software that is reasonably priced that will allow me to convert PDFs to text to enable online reading.
