New member! Check out my new old 75' CB 550...

Hey everyone! I'm a new rider and I bought a 1975 CB 550 rather inexpensively. I had to replace a few things, but mostly standard maintenance items. But something about the rear end of the bike I didn't like. SO I made LED brake lights and turns signals. See pics at the bottom. I do have one question about an issue I'm not sure how to approach. One of the cylinders on the left side of the bike seems to pop and poof when the bike warms up. Still runs decent but you can hear it. Could anyone point me in some general avenues of troubleshooting? I'd appreciate it!   ;D

Now for the pics!!!

Tell me what you guys think of the LED tail lights... And thanks in advance for any help on the one cylinder not firing.

Ben

I had some similar stuff happen here, and I needed to replace a float valve needle(although with this problem ther'd be leaking gas), and clean the carbs up....my first three lines of defense would be a carb cleaning, inline fuel filter, and spark plug cleaning or replacement.

Welcome Blue.  I imagine the bike has been sitting for quite some time.  I would clean and synch the carbs first.  Change the plugs because they're inexpensive.  I'm sure others will have some good recommendations as well.  I like the turn signal!

Cool bike. I really like the LED tail light. I'm in need of a new tail light myself. Where did you get yours?

The lights look good, i think the arrow signals are great! I wonder about amber in the stop light though. Here (Ontario, Canada) the law says the brake light must be red. The police seem to ignore a lot of things, but if you get stopped they somehow remember to charge for everything - I got nicked for a missing mirror, no license light (LED replacement bulb), and no horn (it worked the day before, dammit) when I got pulled over for "weaving" - I was riding around recessed manhole covers and the man thought I must be drunk.

I made the LED tails and the turns are harley bullet turns that I made the arrow turns. The LEd brake lights are red. The camera doesn't like intense red colors apparently. I do have a white light shining on the plate. As far as the engine troubles goes. I have replaced all the plugs. I'm getting spark. The guy I bought it from had it running, but dummy me I didn't wait for it to warm properly so I never heard the cylinder mis-fire. He said he had the carbs rebuilt. Having them synched is another question, I'm not sure about that.
